Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream is viewed as one of the most socially active, counter cultural companies in America. It is a company ran by strong ethical behavior for the betterment of its employees and the community. In 1988, Ben and Jerry’s Homemade Inc. created a document called the Statement of Mission, we are dedicated to the creation and demonstration of a new corporate concept of linked prosperity. Our mission consists of three interrelated parts: product, economic and social. Ben and Jerry’s use its human resource management policies to gain acceptance of and commitment to improved quality within the workforce. The company set up a human resource department designed to help develop and foster an environment consistent with the desire to provide a good place for people to work. Decisions about the company include what is good for their employees. Communication and interpersonal skills are finely tuned by allowing the employees the opportunity to provide annual evaluations of their supervisors. To improve moral and motivation Ben & Jerry’s elected for the benefit packages to be designed with the help of the employees. Music is piped into the production area to establish a friendly working environment. A flex spending account was setup, which would allow employees to make elections into programs that best fit their needs.
